Empowering Communities through Climate-Smart Agriculture and Inclusive Finance

Gender-Responsive Agriculture Adaptation: Parametric Insurance and Smart Finance Integration in Burundi

Welcome to our project dedicated to enhancing climate resilience in Burundi’s agriculture sector. Through innovative approaches such as parametric insurance and smart finance, we aim to support rural farming communities in adopting sustainable and gender-responsive agriculture practices.

Gender-Inclusive Approaches to Climate Adaptation

Welcome to the Gender-Responsive Agriculture Adaptation Project

Burundi’s agricultural sector faces severe challenges from climate change, including unpredictable rainfall, intense drought, and frequent pest outbreaks, threatening food security and livelihoods. The “Gender-Responsive Agriculture Adaptation: Parametric Insurance and Smart Finance Integration in Burundi” project will enable the adoption of Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) practices, addressing gender gaps, implementing environmental and social safeguards, and managing climate risks. Focused on gender inclusivity, the project aims to enhance community resilience, improve financial accessibility, and ensure that women and youth actively participate in and benefit from climate adaptation efforts. Supported by the Canadian Government, this initiative seeks to create a sustainable, equitable, and climate-resilient agricultural sector in Burundi.

Project Outcome

The project enhances national financial mobilization by improving access to finance through risk-sharing mechanisms and investments. It promotes climate-smart agriculture and gender-responsive practices, ensuring sustainability and social equity. Additionally, it builds an enabling environment by strengthening institutions, increasing financial products for small farmers, and promoting inclusivity. This approach supports small farmers, making them more resilient and effective contributors to agricultural growth.

Empowering Women and Promoting Inclusivity

Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI)

The project adopts a proactive approach into all stages of the project, from planning to execution to address barriers faced by women, youth, people with disabilities, and marginalized populations, and ensure that all groups benefit equitably from the project’s outcomes. Through capacity-building, gender mainstreaming, gender assessments, awareness campaigns, and innovative insurance facilities, we strive to ensure equitable outcomes and meaningful participation of all community members.
